The Bibendum building in Knightsbridge is one of London's finest Art Deco sights. It's got some great details - especially this Michelin Tyre Man window.

When I first saw this I was kind of hoping it was one Eine's massive letters illuminated. I'm not sure what it's advertising (the W not the sin) but I'd like to see Eine knock out a series of these across the city.

Staines is in West london where the city ends and the country begins. Or to put it another way its a place where you can still find people with hoxton fin haircuts and parkas but with just the slightest hint of webbed feet and a hunchback. Ali G (big up the Staines massive) and (ahem) Hard-Fi have put the town on the map in recent times. So maybe it was inevitable the town would get it's first stencil graffiti....

So I went to see Arsenal play Blackburn at the weekend. Just a shame that Blackburn had a 4-4 defence in operation. 0-0 was the predictable result. I don't think Mark Hughes has quite worked out that drawing a cup game is not a fantastic result. Roll on the replay.
My one action photo from the day. Note to self - faces obscured by the corner flag makes for a very bad photo. Monday, February 19

According to recent reports the Banksy smiley cop in Vestry Street, Hoxton has been buffed and this long stayer by the London Eye may also have met it's maker. Can anyone confirm if this one has finally gone (it was there in the snow for this picture just over a week ago)?

Spotted on the London Eye recently, a fully covered Red Nose Day pod. It can't be too long before no tube carriage is safe from students with buckets in fancy dress outfits....

London's music centre 'Tin Pan Alley' in Denmark Street is still going strong. There's still a wealth of bands looking for that elusive drummer and the in the back streets the gentle thud of future (ahem!) stars rehearsing.

It's a well hidden fact that the Thames in London has a beach with only the occasional low tide party thrown down there. It's got some fine sand and so it now attracts sand sculptors looking for cash. This guy is looking more like he's grieving for a lost relative!

Last week saw several Banksy pieces being auctioned at Sotheby's, the most expensive of which (Bomb Middle England) went for a total price of £102,000. As ever it's led to a slew of articles entitled "Laughing all the way to the Banksy" etc. Banksy even had a full page write up in the Daily Torygraph. Those kind of prices are fantastic for the artist and help other artists working in the same field too. They are completely irrelevant to me. Banksy's off street work looks set to be inhabiting Tate Modern in the future and like everything else in there will be free to look at and impossible to own. Me? I'm just looking forward to seeing some new street work and I'm sure that will happen again soon because he's sold enough "tea towells and mugs" to do some great work and must be itching to get back to the buzz of street work.
But in the meantime the playing field has changed. Work in Brighton and London has been given Perspex protection. Recently rail companies and local councils have issued graffiti removal teams with photos of Banksy's work and told not to go over it. The challenge now will be to find the edge in graffiti when instead of being buffed his latest work will have a preservation order slapped on it by Network Rail (how the BTP must love that)! I'm looking forward to seeing whats next.... Friday, February 9

According to radio reports this morning London experienced its heaviest snowfalls for 10 years. By 10 am it was already turning to slush but I managed to take a few shots around the South Bank which I'll put up in the couple of days.

Sometimes artistic interventions on the street can attract too much of the wrong attention as Turner found out recently when they ran a campaign using these illuminated figures in strange locations. The Boston police department even took to blowing one up. The two guys involved were arrested...more here.

For some reason I missed putting some large pieces that have appeared at Cargo, Rivington Street London on artofthestate. This, I hope you agree, is just fantastic and is by Adam Neate.
