Typically I forgot to note the names of these bridges in Bristol, one a intricate iron work lattice style, another a ultra modern steel style. With a bit of luck maybe somebody out there knows....

More politically inspired stencil art from Bristol - final part tomorrow

More stencils found on a recent trip to Bristol. Lately there's been a lack of direct political messages so its good to see stencils with a meaning rather than a picture of somebody's labrador. Good work!

Two of a series of great posters adorning London streets at the current time. They're the work of James Cauty (formerly of the Orb, JAMMS and KLF) and continue in his fine tradition of kicking up a fuss.

I can't quite explain it but somehow until this week I'd nver been to Bristol. Which is weird as it's always been a fantastic hotbed of punk (early eighties Riot City Records was based there along with countless bands), cutting edge music, radical bookshops and graffiti. It's only two hours up the M4 which means I really have no excuse.  To sort this out once and for all on Tuesday I spent from dawn to dusk in the city including taking these pictures of the fantastic Clifton Suspension bridge.

I might be completely wrong here but there's a parkour look to what the figure in this stencil in Brick Lane is doing.

View Article  45K, really?

Pictured below is Banksy's 'Kids on Guns' canvas from Santa's Ghetto 2003, where it was on sale for £450.00 (yeah, I know). I think it's from an edition of 25.

The next time I saw a copy was at the War Child exhibition in 2006 where it was a cool £4500, But that's OK - I'd imagine either all of that price or a hefty chunk of it was going to War Child, a fantastic charity doing fantastic work.

But really, where do Andipa.com get off knocking it out half a year later for £45,000? The weird thing is that when that gets reported in papers it probably reads as Banksy getting 45K for it, when in fact he might just have got a slice of £450 instead and he's got nothing to do with Andipa or their prices. It's no wonder he's selling for more these days. We'd all get pretty sick of selling stuff one day to see someone making ten times or more with it a short space of time down the line....

View Article  Judith Supine

As hoped some of the artists in the Eleven show are appearing on the streets - these are near Old Street and are by Judith Supine

View Article  You wait ages for a show then two turn up together....

Two very promising shows preview tonight and open tomorrow.

First up is Eleven, cunningly titled as there are 11 street artists involved. Shepard Fairey, Matt Small, Blek Le Rat, Eine, Aiko, D*Face, Swoon (pictured below), Judith Supine, WK Interact, Jim Houser and Elbowtoe.

Eleven is on at the Leonard Street Gallery, 73A Leonard Street, London, EC2A 4QS. The show runs from the 9th March to the 18th April.

Swoon

Second is a show by Faile at Lazinc. 'From Brooklyn With Love' is on from 9th March to the 7th April and should feature plenty of their multi layered references to popular culture and comic books. I found this stencil by Faile in Brick lane yesterday so maybe they are in town right now.

View Article  Bark at the moon

Last night there was a lunar eclipse where the Earth gets in front of the moon. If you missed it here's a sequence I managed to take last night.

When the Earth fully obscures the Moon the only light shining on it is coming via the Earth and not the Sun. This gives the moon it's reddish glow.

Following on from yesterday heres some more canvases

View Article  Andipa Banksy Show

First off to avoid any confusion this is not a show by Banksy. It is instead a gallery that has brought together for sale a fair amount of Banksy canvases and screenprints. The gallery has been operation since 1593 and is located in Knightsbridge, London. The prices match the location. All the same the gallery were cool about photos being taken as long as you ask and don't use a flash. So you can treat it like an exhibition if you want and ignore the prices. I stopped worrying about prices a while ago when I realised that I don't go into Tate Modern and think damn, if only that Dali was cheaper. Like Dali, Banksy originals are way out of my league.

Anyway enough about all that, what's there to see? Well about 15 canvasses, many just classic stencils such as 'Laugh Now' and 'Rude Copper' on plain white backgrounds and around double the number of screenprints. It's a good place to go if you haven't seen any of this stuff before.

If you like Banksy's work though its just methadone while you wait for the next street fix.

A few more pictures tomorrow....
