Mantis's recent work shows a marked departure from the stencils he was originally famous for as this new piece shows. Taken far too late in the day to do the detail in the piece justice its nevertheless great to see him back on the streets of London.
Another welcome return comes in the form of Jef Aerosol - especially as this time he has switched to full stenciling mode instead of the pasted up stencils of recent visits. Here's a couple from Bethnal Green:

Kounter Kulture / Dave White - Planes, Tanks and Automatics Both of these shows occupy a huge space in the Truman Brewery complex in London's Brick Lane. First up is Kounter Kulture (hmmm, not exactly counter-culture when drinks are supplied by Red Bull and credit facilities are available fom Barclays)! It has a wide variety of street artists you may be familiar with (Eine, Pure Evil, Copyright Jef Aerosol and more) along with a whole host of other artists operating via many mediums. Second up (and in the same building) is Dave White's exhibition of a new body of work. Three things hit you when you see this for the first time - war comics, pop art and massively textured action painting - fantastic stuff. All in all both exhibitions make a trip well worth while (though you'll need deep pockets to take anything home with you).

Banksy on his Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill in the Village in New York (open until October 31st 2008) "New Yorkers don't care about art, they care about pets. So I'm exhibiting them instead," he said. "I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing. "I took all the money I made exploiting an animal in my last show and used it to fund a new show about the exploitation of animals. "If it's art and you can see it from the street, I guess it could still be considered street art." And a quote attributed to Banksy in the Independent: "There have been complaints from people who are unhappy about being on their way to work and seeing two hot dogs performing a sex act. But it's no more unnatural than the process behind making a sausage in the first place."

This blog mainly covers art, the city and punk rock. It's fair to say punk rocker Dan Witz's paintings of the city at night ticks all of these boxes. Anyone who saw his previous work at stolenspace can't fail to have admiration for his photorealistic style of painting and now he has a solo show coming up again at the same venue. From October 10th.
