View Article  A little bit of stencil history

C6 / Dotmasters have been around in street art as long as I can remember. Back around the turn of the century Dotmasters 'new media new arse' stencil was all over Shoreditch (a few examples even survive to this day but the one below is a non street version). Recent work including the Cans Festival exudes quality. Last week Dotmasters added new pieces to Mutate Britain (London's show of 2008 surely? I don't know anyone who's been once who hasn't returned). Pictures below. Some of this work is very well priced too and looks stunning in the flesh.

Last night I just got to the Nightmare Before Christmas as it was being shut up. Looks an interesting little 'lost' corner of London just off Charing Cross Road. Here's a few quick snaps, more when I go back when its properly open.

View Article  More shows, POW open day

A couple more shows, one just opened and another due to open.

First up Sweet Toof has a solo show at Sartorial Art near Kings Cross from December 19th. His last show there with Burning Candy (Tek33 and Cyclops) was an amazing collection of paintings and redecorated found objects. It opens for a few days in December and then for a longer stint again in January.

Already underway is 'The Nightmare before Christmas' - a show from Little Art Book and the Daydream Network featuring featuring Focus, The Krah, One Trick Pony, Pure Evil, K-Guy, Hush, Rugman, ATG, Hutch, Inkfetish, Tek 13, Snub, Dan Kitchener, Paintshop, Oh Death, Ashab Mishfit, Adam Mallett, Vilchez, Sinhouse, Blam, Jimi Crayon, Tom Hovey and more.

Its simple for everyone to get to being not far from Tottenham Court Road station: The Courtyard, SIN. 144 Charing Cross Road, London, WC2H 0LB.

The recently held POW open day seemed to be pretty mad on the Saturday. I turned up Sunday afternoon and it was a much more chilled out affair. Grafter was busy stenciling the Sausage Man's van and ATG were just making sure it was unlikely POW were going to get their deposit back on the van hire! POW raised nearly £25K from a raffle to win or buy a Banksy print. The charity chosen is a really good one - sightsavers international - and with an adult cataract operation costing only £17.00 to perform its one where the money can make a huge difference to a lot of peoples lives.

Nice to see this by Redlock - and it saves me having to go to South East London to find it.

The staff at POW were happy to screen print onto pretty much anything.

A rather large and magnificent canvas by Gee Vaucher inside POW. All of which brings this post full circle back to Sweet Toof

Above got in touch to let me know he is has produced a new print to specifically help the homeless including a centre based right here in the UK. Read on.

In a concept similar to "Robin Hood" I am taking an active role in helping those less fortunate. I am selling the "GIVING TO THE POOR" print at an affordable cost hoping to get as many people involved in this benevolent project as possible. 100% of ALL PROFITS will be donated to both these Homeless shelters. I have carefully selected these Homeless shelters because of each of their long-standing active role in the Homeless community. View Article  Open House Weekend

If you're heading up to the Pictures On Walls Open Day this weekend do yourself a favour and pop round the corner to the old tramshed in Garden Walk (entrance is in Rivington Street I think) to see Sickboy's show. Some pictures from the show below. And don't forget that Mutate Britain is just around the corner as well!

(Have a look around the back and you'll find the key to the house)

Willow Street, Shoreditch will be closed off this weekend. Not too much of a shocker but the reason behind the closure is because the street that houses PicturesOnWalls is being given over to the first POW open day which promises prints from Mudwig, Blu, Vhils (bottom right), Eelus (top left), Antony Micallef (top right), Parra, Xenz, Mr Ian Stevenson, Banksy (bottom left - prints are being sold via a lottery system) and Lucy MacLauchlan. Redirect your browser to POW for the latest info.

View Article  Hunting down Part2ism

Sometimes you just chance on a piece of street art as maybe the sun lights it up and it looks just about as good as it ever could. Other times you rock up to a spot to find its half covered by a shadow or in the case of my recent attempts to get some decent shots of part2ism work, its stuck behind some furniture. This time round it was third time lucky after image one was behind a cabinet and image 2 was behind a table. I'm taking Pickfords with me next time I go out snapping.
